If you are interested in featuring this sundae in your store, feel free to contact us for ordering the special ingredients needed or a poster promoting the sundae.
During the month of August, we will be featuring a Caramel Quest Sundae. For this sundae, we will use our Caramel Chaos ice cream covered with salted caramel, chocolate covered pretzels, almonds, whipped cream and a cherry. All supplies needed for promoting and selling this sundae will be available to ship starting the week of July 26th.
Go Green!
Did you know that cones and napkins use less energy to produce and result in less waste than dishes and spoons? Try offering cones as the more Earth-healthy option and suggest to dish out an extra 10 cents for every dish!
Quality Assurance Column: Keep Food Safe!
Keeping ice cream safe for consumers is our number one priority here at Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Company.
Here area a few not so fun facts:
- Did you know that the CDC estimates that 76 million Americans get sick, more than 300,000 are hospitalized, and 5,000 people die from foodborne illnesses each year? If you'd ask me, I'd say that's no good!
- 30-50% of healthy adults carry the bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus (try to say that five times in a row!) in their nose, and about 20-35% carry it on their skin. If these microorganisms contaminate food, the consequences can be severe. To prevent this, food handlers must pay close attention to what they do with their hands and maintain good personal hygiene.
- Only 67% of people wash their hands after using the restroom. It makes you wonder how many of the 67% washer their hands properly??
So how can we do our part to keep food safe?
- Wet your hands with clean running water and apply soap. Use warm water if it is available.
- Rub hands together to make a lather and scrob all surfaces.
- Continue rubbing hands for 15-20 seconds. Need a timer? Sing Happy Birthday twice loudly or you can even practice your ABC's!!
- Rinse hands thoroughly under warm-hot running water.
- Dry your hands using a paper towel or air dryer. If possible, use your paper towel to turn off the faucet.
So when should we wash our hands while handling food? Here's our policy: All employees must wash their hands before they start work and after they:
- Use the restroom.
- Handle any food or dairy product.
- Touch their hair, face or body.
- Sneeze, cough, or use a tissue.
- Smoke, eat, drink, or chew gum or tobacco (any of which are not permitted in the production are).
- Handle chemicals that might affect the safety of the food.
- Take out the garbage.
- Bus dirty dishes.
- Touch clothing or aprons.
- Touch anything else that may contaminate hands, such as unsanitized equipment, work surfaces, or wash cloths.
- Have worked at the same station for 4 hours or more.
Help keep food safe by simply washing your hands.
